Convert Video/Music by using VLC Media Player

VLC Media Player is a free and open source media player. It runs on Windows, Mac OS, as well as Linux. It is a powerful media player that can play almost any video you throw on it. It supports most codecs that are used nowadays for media files. If you don't have it in your computer, really, you should install it. You can download VLC Media Player from here.

Behind its features as a multimedia player, there are something more behind it. One of them is media conversion. You can use VLC to convert your media files into wide variety of media formats.
Usually some other media players only provide Save as a copy feature, but VLC can convert it to other video formats. You can convert your videos into mobile video formats, you can get the same video with smaller file size, you can produce mp3 music file from your video, or you can do other tasks related to media conversion.

Here is the step:
  1. Open VLC media player.
  2. From menu Media, choose Convert/Save. Or just simply press Ctrl+R. It will open Open Media dialog box.

  3. On tab File, click Add button.
  4. Choose video you want to convert.
  5. Click Convert/Save button.
  6. Specify the type of media file you want to convert it to in Profile select box. You can click Edit selected profile button to tweak the video encoding settings.

  7. Specify the output file name in Destination file box.
  8. Click Start button to start conversion. VLC will display the time indicator in the player run by itself without any media played. It indicates the conversion progress. It will end at the last second of the media playing duration.
